Five Most Used Social Media Sites For Promotions In 2014

Social media marketing is increasingly being used in business to attract attention and gain website traffic. Forty-six percent of marketers agree that social marketing is core to their business. They chose several explanations for why social media sites are so important. First, social indirectly impacts your business performance; second, social is a critical enabler of products/services your business provides; and third, business’s primary revenue source is directly linked to social marketing.

Interestingly, dedicated social teams are almost as common as dedicated email teams. And those social teams are roughly the size of most email teams—typically 3 people or less. Even the most reputed techs have started to recognize that social media marketing is a must to business and hence, 2014 was full of companies turning to social media sites for better reach towards people.

Here are the five most used social media sites for social media marketing in 2014:

Facebook

Worldwide, there are over 1.35 billion monthly active Facebook users, 1.12 billion mobile active users. 864 million people log onto Facebook daily and photo uploads count to a total of 300 million per day. Every 60 seconds 510 comments are posted, 293,000 statuses are updated, and 136,000 photos are uploaded. Does there need to be any more reason Facebook tops the list?

Facebook is the topmost social media sites and one stop shop to connect with the whole world. This is the reason why 94% of companies chose to promote their service/product/event over the social media giant. It is the safest way to ensure your update reaches the maximum number of people in every corner of the world.

Twitter

The idea is simple – provide a cool hash-tag, short information and a link that directs the user to detailed information. This has been the age-old mantra for promotions over Twitter and a fairly successful one, considering the wide popularity of the social networking site and 83% promotions over it during the last year. In October, IBM upped the ante by teaming up with Twitter and giving promotion a new perspective.

Best Social Media Sites

More than 63% of brands on Twitter have multiple accounts and the top 100 global brands tweet an average of 12 times a day. That is enough to show the importance Twitter holds to even them and considering its 284 million monthly active users and 100 million daily active twitter users; it is evident why it is an important part of a good promotional strategy.

LinkedIn

With over 300 million users, LinkedIn may not be the biggest of social media sites but in terms of professionals and experts, it certainly is the best. And that is the reason why 71% of companies chose to promote their product over it. Maybe not as many eyeballs, but LinkedIn drives expert opinions and suggestions from people worldwide that prove helpful.

40% of LinkedIn users check their account daily and it has 187 million monthly users. LinkedIn is available in 20 languages in over 200 countries and territories and that’s why it is ideal for large as well as small scale business promotions.

YouTube

The biggest advantage of YouTube for promotions, among all other social media sites, is that it doesn’t need an account, which means the promotional video can literally reach anyone with an internet connection. YouTube receives over 1 billion visitors every month, 40% of which are from mobile devices. Because of its worldwide popularity, YouTube is available in 61 different languages.

100 hours of video is uploaded to the site every minute and 4 million videos are viewed per day. That’s why it was the choice of 57% of companies for promotions in 2014. YouTube now has over one million advertisers, the majority of what are small businesses.

Google+

Unlike Facebook, which connects people, Google+ is one of the interest-based social media sites which allow people to be informed about what they are interested in. Hence promotions over Google+ reach less number of users but more number of potential customers. In 2014, 54% of the companies chose to make use of this fact. Google+ has 300 million active monthly users of which 20 million are from mobile devices.
